You now have an idea of the minimum configuration for your
computer, whether laptop or desktop, and some basic software
requirements. Next on the agenda are peripherals. You can
usually get a better price for peripherals when you buy them
as part of a system rather than buying them separately.
Consider the following peripherals for your small office:
-
Printer: No home office is complete without a
printer and HP has a reputation for quality products.
There are many good inkjet printers available for less
money, but consider your overall cost of ownership when
making a printer purchase. If you do a lot of printing,
you can end up spending a lot of money on ink cartridges.
If you do go for an inkjet, consider a higher-end model
with a large-capacity ink cartridge. In most cases, you
probably don't need color, so save the money and stick
to black and white.
-
Scanner: A scanner transforms your computer into
both fax machine and copier. If your scanning needs are
modest, look for something like the HP ScanJet 4200Cse.
For more demanding scanning duties, consider the higher
end HP ScanJet 6300Cse.
-
Multi-Function Device: If you have space issues,
or you want to save some money, consider a multi-function
office device such as the HP OfficeJet T65. This allows
you to print, scan and fax all from one machine. The quality
will not be as high as if you had individual devices,
but you get good functionality in one compact unit.
